Medical silicone oil is a kind of polyorganosiloxane liquid and its derivatives, which are used to diagnose, prevent and treat diseases or play the role of lubrication and defoaming on medical devices. Broadly speaking, silicone oil used for skin care and beauty care also belongs to this category. The commonly used medical silicone oil is polydimethylsiloxane. By its defoaming property, it can be made into a swelling tablet for abdominal distension and an aerosol for treating pulmonary edema. It can also be used as an anti adhesion agent to prevent intestinal adhesion in abdominal surgery, as an antifoaming agent for gastric juice and a lubricant for some medical surgical instruments in gastroscopy. Properties of medical silicone oil

Medical silicone oil is colorless and clear oily liquid; odorless or almost odorless, tasteless. Medical silicone oil is easily dissolved in chloroform, ether or toluene, but insoluble in water and ethanol. The quality standard of medical silicone oil must conform to Chinese Pharmacopoeia 2010 edition and USP28 / nf23 (higher than the previous API standards).

Effect of medical silicone oil

1. It is used as lubricant and polishing agent for tablet and capsule, tablet granulation, tablet pressing, coating and other processes, bright, anti sticking and moisture-proof, and coolant for controlled-release preparations, especially dropping pills;

2. It is used as suppository release agent, antifoaming agent in the extraction process of traditional Chinese medicine;

3. Its surface tension is small, which can change the surface tension of bubble and make it break.
