Let’s be kids.” The road map to improve packaging sustainability could take very different paths in the U.S. and Canada.On Oct. 21, Canada Plastics Pact released its plan on how to hit goals to recycle or compost 50 percent of plastic packaging by 2025.Like one in the U.S., the Canadian pact considers issues related to “problematic plastics,” .The Canada pact has the backing of a range of companies, from consumer brands such as Coca-Cola Canada; retailers like Walmart Canada; the country’s largest plastics maker, Nova Chemicals; and the federal agency Environment and Climate Change Canada.But while the U.S. pact’s plans met criticism from the resin industry, materials leaders in Canada have been more muted.The head of the plastics division in the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada, Elena Mantagaris, issued a statement that didn’t directly criticize the CPP.”Our members are focused on developing solutions to ensure that plastics do not end up as a waste, but remain in the economy,” she said. “While we are not a signatory to the CPP, we are working toward a common goal: the establishment of a circular economy for plastics.”  She may not be the same level as the “bones or no bones” internet sensation Noodles the Pug, but the rescue dog Wobbly Hannah and her custom 3D printed quad cart are still worth following.Hannah was born with a neurological condition that makes it hard for her to control her movements, and at 65 pounds, she didn’t fit into standard dog mobility carts, so materials supplier Braskem and DiveDesign joined forces to create one just for her.Boonton, N.J.-based industrial design group DiveDesign first starting working on Wobbly Hannah’s cart in April. Braskem stepped in to supply a carbon-fiber-reinforced polypropylene filamint for 3D printing after seeing.”When DiveDesign first shared the opportunity and we saw Hannah on Instagram, we instantly fell in love with her,” Jason Vagnozzi, Braskem commercial director of additive manufacturing, . “We immediately knew having a lightweight durable material would be essential to the success of the project. Our carbon-fiber-reinforced polypropylene was the perfect solution for her quad cart.
