What is silicone oil

What is silicone oil?

Silicone oil usually refers to the linear polysiloxane products that keep liquid state at room temperature, which are generally divided into methyl silicone oil and modified silicone oil. The most commonly used silicone oil methyl silicone oil, also known as ordinary silicone oil, its organic groups are all methyl, methyl silicone oil has good chemical stability, insulation, good hydrophobicity. It is prepared by hydrolysis of dimethyldichlorosilane with water to obtain the primary polycondensated ring. The ring is cracked and rectified to obtain low ring. Then the ring body, capping agent and catalyst are put together to adjust and polymerize to obtain various mixtures with different polymerization degrees. The low boiling matter can be removed by vacuum distillation to obtain silicone oil.

Silicone oil is a kind of non-toxic, tasteless and not easy to evaporate. Silicone oil has excellent heat resistance, electrical insulation, weather resistance, hydrophobicity, physiological inertia and small surface tension. In addition, it has low viscosity temperature coefficient, high compression resistance, and some varieties also have radiation resistance. Because of these reasons, it is called universal fluid.

Dimethyl silicone oil has a variety of excellent properties, so it has been widely used in industrial and agricultural production departments, national defense industry, scientific research and medical and health departments. It is widely used in demoulding, defoaming, damping, shockproof, rolling, dustproof, waterproof, high and low humidity, etc.

Disadvantages:

1. The lubricity of silicone oil is not good, especially for steel friction pair.

2. The thermal expansion coefficient of silicone oil is large (overpressure may occur).

3. The solubility of gas is high (it is difficult to design gas seal device).
