Compared with methyl silicone oil, vinyl silicone oil is unfamiliar to many people, but it is very familiar to do silica gel raw materials and products in the industry, because vinyl silicone oil is commonly used in liquid silicone.

The commonly used vinyl silicone oil can be divided into vinyl terminated silicone oil (VI PDMS) and vinyl terminated side chain vinyl silicone oil (VI pdvs).

The preparation process and reaction mechanism of vinyl silicone oil are similar to that of dimethyl silicone oil: a small number of methyl (me) in polydimethylsiloxane is replaced by vinyl (VI) to form reactive polymethylvinyl siloxane. It is usually made from octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane, tetramethyl tetravinyl cyclotetrasiloxane as raw materials, tetramethyldivinyldisiloxane or hexamethyldisiloxane as end capping agent, which is catalyzed by acid or aChinaali through ring opening equilibrium reaction.

Therefore, vinyl silicone oil is a kind of polyorganosiloxane with different degree of polymerization chain structure, and its performance form is liquid flow.

The main characteristics of vinyl silicone oil are colorless, odorless, non-toxic, non volatile liquid, insoluble in water, miscible with benzene, dimethyl ether, methyl ethyl ketone, tetrachloromethane or kerosene, slightly soluble in acetone and ethanol. It has very low vapor pressure, high flash point and ignition point, low freezing point; with the different number of segments n, the molecular weight increases, the viscosity also increases, and the solid vinyl silicone oil can have various viscosities.

So where is vinyl silicone used?

1. It is used as the base material for the production of high temperature vulcanized silicone rubber (HTV). It is compounded with crosslinking agent, reinforcing agent, colorant, structure control agent, aging resistant agent, etc;

2. It is used to make liquid silicone rubber, which is the main material of injection molding silicone rubber;

3. Vinyl silicone oil can react with polyurethane, acrylic acid and other organic materials to make new materials with better performance (weather resistance, aging resistance, ultraviolet resistance, toughness enhancement, etc.), such as various modified coatings;

4. Silicone emulsion is a form of silicone oil, that is, emulsified silicone oil. Mainly silicone oil softener; silicone oil emulsion defoamer: silicone defoamer is widely used, a large amount of defoamer.
